I usually head for the coast before I do anything serious in Los Santos. The sea still feels useful, not decorative, and grabbing GTA 5 Money only makes more sense when you know where the game actually lets you move, dive, and survive.
Water still has rules
GTA V doesn't ask you to "start swimming" like some clunky old game. Walk into deep enough water and your character swaps states on their own. Pools, rivers, lakes, the Alamo Sea, and the full ocean all work, though depth matters a lot.
That's where people mess up. A shallow pool may look diveable, but the game wants water over your head. If it isn't deep enough, hammering the dive button just makes you look a bit lost.
Controls that actually matter
Surface Move: PC WASD, PlayStation left stick, Xbox left stick.
Swim Faster: PC Shift, PlayStation X, Xbox A.
Dive Down: PC Spacebar, PlayStation R1, Xbox RB.
Swim Underwater: PC Left Shift, PlayStation X, Xbox A.
Reality check: Most bad dives aren't bugs. It's usually shallow water, panic inputs, or someone forgetting the breath meter.
The inverted bit catches everyone
Underwater movement feels backwards at first. Push up on the stick and you go deeper, not higher. Pull down to climb back toward air, or on PC hold S with Left Shift when you're trying to surface before things get ugly.
Reddit currently claims: Newer players still drown because they stare at the view, not the tiny blue breath bar near health.
Don't ignore the boring survival stuff
Red Flag: Paid GTA Online cheat menus are privacy traps, ban bait, and not worth your main account.
Why players still care
Diving isn't just a party trick. Hidden packages can pay out, underwater spots hide odd little discoveries, and swimming builds useful physical stats for longer races and messy escapes. If you'd rather skip the grind elsewhere, some players still look to buy cheap GTA 5 Money before heading back into Los Santos with a cleaner plan.
